Collaboration accelerates reforestation and community development in Central Ghana.
FORM Ghana, a Forest Stewardship Council™ (FSC-C044035) certified forest plantation management company, has signed an agreement with Climate Impact Partners, a leading carbon finance organization, providing exclusive access to 371,000 high-quality carbon removal credits, from its flagship reforestation project in two locations in Central Ghana.
The project, certified under Verra’s Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) and adhering to FSC™ Principles and Criteria for Sustainable Forest Management, aims to reforest 20,000 hectares of degraded forest reserves in Ghana over its lifetime – Ghana lost 2.5 million hectares of total forest area between 1990 and 2010. To date, nearly 12,000 hectares have been restored. Planting includes teak (Tectona grandis) and native species as part of its restoration efforts.
As a working timber business, the project has created more than 1000 jobs - with 40% of these allocated to women - in a community impacted by climate change. Helping to overcome the drivers of deforestation, the project promotes responsible land management practices and helps to enhance food security.
Through this agreement, corporates with ambitious net-zero goals can access high-quality carbon removal credits.
“Africa’s potential as the engine for global green growth is untapped, with the voluntary carbon market playing a central role in this, said Faith Temba, Africa Sourcing Manager at Climate Impact Partners. "FORM Ghana’s reforestation project exemplifies the important role of carbon finance to create new carbon sinks, work with local communities, address the drivers of deforestation, and support biodiversity. The project highlights just how powerful nature can be as a climate mitigation tool, helping to support progress towards global climate targets and ensuring a thriving future for all life on Earth.”
“We are thrilled to partner with Climate Impact Partners to amplify the positive impact of our reforestation projects," added Willem Fourie, CEO FORM Ghana. This agreement allows us to further our mission of restoring Ghana's forests while generating valuable carbon credits and creating a positive social and environmental impact.”
The partnership with FORM Ghana underscores Climate Impact Partners' unwavering commitment to supporting innovative and impactful carbon projects that address climate change while promoting social and environmental responsibility, bringing high quality carbon credits for leading companies.
